At HM Manufacturing, gear shaping is one of our services that allows for precision products to be machined with an accurate tooth profile. Our shape cutter machines teeth for both internal and external gears and splines.
Gear Shaping is used to machine both internal and external gears. The shaping process is utilized in projects with interfering contours when hobbing isn’t a feasible option. The continuous rotational movement during operation allows for the tool to manufacture teeth on the workpiece in an even, precise manner. The rolling action of the tool generates the gear profile on the same pressure line. The oscillating cutting movement is realized by the simultaneous radial feed of the tool on the desired profile. At HM, it is our priority to provide the best quality product for our customers, which is why we have CNC gear inspection systems to check accuracy of all tooth cutting operations. APPLICATIONSWhat are Splines?
Splines are the ridges or teeth (external spline) on a drive shaft that mesh with an equal number of like ridges or teeth (internal spline) in a mating piece with the purpose of transferring torque and power to the same axis. HM Manufacturing capabilities include the production of splined pulleys and shafts for axles, power transmission, gearboxes and other motion control applications. Splines from HM are manufactured from the highest quality materials, designed and engineered to meet every customer's specifications such as tight tolerances, dynamic shape dimensions, custom amount of teeth and size. What are Internal Gears? The internal gear has teeth machined on the interior surface of the gear. Internal gears are made for applications involving planetary gear drives and gear couplings since these gears have the ability to work on the inside of another gear. Our internal gears are made for tight tolerance applications with high precision. Internal gears are used in applications that require better load carrying capability due to its strong and effective shape.
