Our in-house capabilities are a perfect example of how we can machine complete. This particular system is made from 4340 steel that’s normalized and nitrided for maximum hardness, having a 2MP pitch with 13 teeth and 4-1/2” long.
Unlike the usual method of cutting rack teeth with a dedicated tool, we milled these in-house—take a look at the program in the photo! This part is headed to a major defense company, showcasing the precision and quality we bring to every project. Designed for durability, it features 4 threaded ports (two 7/16-24 and two 1/2-20) connected by a central thru-hole to aid in oil and grease retention. The milled circles provide O-ring sealing surfaces, preventing leaks in or out. Machined using our CNC 5-axis mill—we think it came out great!
Let us know what projects you want HM to machine for you. HM manufactured these small intricate timing pulleys with 30 teeth, a keyway and two screw holes.9/19/2023 Shown here is what we start with to the final product. For this specific project, these pieces start off by being heat treated before coming to our CNC lathe to be profiled. It then is sent to our CNC mill and CNC hobber before a final heat treating process. Once the splines are completed, they are thoroughly checked by our quality department using our CMM machine. |
