As a board member for The American Gear Manufacturers Association, Nicole Wolter was able to attend the official ribbon cutting ceremony and open house for the AGMA National Training Center at Daley College. This event also served as the annual meeting for AGMA, which allowed all the board members to come together. It is very exciting to continue to get students involved in manufacturing with a variety of different classes and hands-on experience within the gearing industry.

Our president and CEO Nicole Wolter was one of multiple manufacturers asked to speak to the class of 2021 about the future possibilities within the manufacturing industry. Wolter explained how students interested in math, science, STEM, etc. have a place in the manufacturing world where they can have sustainable careers. Other manufacturers explain how they were able to grow from their starting position to a better opportunity within their company. Another talked about how they were always fascinated with building and creating things, and that manufacturing has become their passion. The address to the next generation is more than a pitch for manufacturing, it showcases the endless opportunities in the industry that our economy and country is built on. President and CEO Nicole Wolter has recently been named to the board of directors of the National Association of Manufacturers. The NAM was founded in 1895 and is the largest industrial association in the United States. With over 14,000 members, the NAM has an incredible influence over manufacturing and trade industries and advocates for employees, company owners and corporations both large and small. HM Manufacturing is beyond excited to now be an official part of this association. We look forward to having a voice on the board that will advocate for policies that benefit all manufacturers. Both HM and Wolter are working continuously to reduce the skills gap within the industry and encourage manufacturing as a career path for younger generations, which are both common initiatives within our company and the NAM.

“Nicole commands respect as a recognized leader in our industry, and the NAM will be stronger thanks to her service on our Board of Directors,” said NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons.

Last week, the Technology & Manufacturing Association’s Education Foundation granted Streamwood High School $12,463.35 to purchase new manufacturing equipment for their tech department. This grant is part of $70,000 donated by the TMA Education Foundation to local high schools already this year, with over $1.6 million donated to date.

On behalf of the Technology & Manufacturing Association Education Foundation, HM Manufacturing President and CEO Nicole Wolter presented McHenry High School district a grant for $29,775. Wolter presented the grant to District 156 School Board of Education President Gary Kinshofer, Vice President Tim Byers, Superintendent Ryan McTague, Assistant Superintendent Carl Vallianatos, manufacturing teacher Gaylord Rodeman, and Board Members Pat Arnold, Steve Bellmore, and Ron Fischer.

McHenry High Schools’ manufacturing program has experienced rapid growth, now running 7 full class periods and has participated in TMA’s Precision Machining Competition for the second year in a row. Four young women from McHenry High School are taking Metals 1. The increased interest from young women in McHenry’s program is encouraging for the future of manufacturing. HM Manufacturing has hired one of Mr. Rodeman’s seniors to work full time after graduation and offered an internship to a young woman in Metals 1 to work in quality control and inspection. The TMA Education Foundation has donated over $60,000 already this year. To date, the TMA Education Foundation’s total school grants have exceeded $1.6 million.

Wolter highlights the importance of the TMA Education Foundation, “our advisory board has worked hard to come up with a program that will benefit the students long term. We’ve taught the students basic resume writing skills, conducted mock interviews and offered paid summer internships. We are excited about the manufacturing field’s prospects and are proud to invest in its future!”
